Each year the Key Biscayne Citizen Scientist Project’s Key Challenge engages the schools in and near Key Biscayne to increase their students’ appreciation and knowledge of Key Biscayne’s & Biscayne Bay’s natural resources. At the end of the year long school challenge, an awards ceremony is held.
This year, the awards ceremony was held on May 9, 2019, and the first place trophies were crafted by & with Free Plastic.
25 trophies in the shape of the island of Key Biscayne were delivered, and the Key Biscayne Citizen Scientist Project’s 2019 Key Challenge awards ceremony was a success!!
With an average of 6 ounces of post-consumer, single-use plastic in each trophy, we used over 1.5 pounds of plastic. And, we beat the cost-per-unit price of last year’s trophies.
A special thank you to Key Biscayne Community Foundation and Key Biscayne Citizen Scientist Project for giving us the opportunity to try something new, and for always pushing our community forward.
And now, check out these smiling faces!!
We can’t wait till next year when the trophies will be made out of plastic farmed from Key Biscayne by the students participating in the 2020 Key Challenge!!
