This week you may have seen headlines like this one “633 divers collect over 1,500 pounds of trash at a Florida beach — and set a world record“.
Deerfield Beach held that cleanup, and that south Florida beach & pier was lucky to receive a good deep cleaning (haha).
Some other good news that came from that cleanup, our farmer and her crew were there! One of Sun of a Beach Cleanup’s divers came back with 35 pounds of lead pollution!
35 POUNDS!!
Sun of a Beach Cleanup also farmed some “world record” and a new pallet for Free Plastic to recycle!!
We just sorted everything, and here is our very small piece of the pie:
- 9 single use water bottles
- 1 single use Gatorade bottle
- 1 single use Powerade bottle
- 1 single use 7-11 tea bottle
- 1 single use Arizona tea bottle
- 5 single use Zephyrhills bottles
- 1 single use Waiakea bottle
- 1 single use Publix bottle
- 1 single use Nestle bottle
- 1 single use Kirkland bottle
- 2 single use plastic cups
- 1 single use plastic fork.
- 5 pieces of small/micro plastics
- 1 plastic sunscreen bottle
- 1 plastic laundry detergent top
- 1 plastic/rubber beach soccer ball
- 1 single use pallet!? WTH!?! This thing is BRAND NEW!!
We are seeing a trend here. What would this pile look like if we didn’t have those single use plastics (and pallet!?!?)
That said, we want to give a huge shout out to our plastic farmer! Desiree at Sun of a Beach Cleanup is amazing, and we would be nothing without our her and her network of dedicated beach cleaners.
THANK YOU!
