Free PlasticCleanups, Plastic Poetry

A collage of volunteers cleaning up the beach at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center

Our first cleanup was held on Saturday, February 27, 2021 from 3 to 5pm at Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center.

We had 12 participants and they collected over 50 pounds of pollution! And, from that 50 pounds of waste, we were able to recover 12.84 pounds (5.82kg) of plastic! The plastic s being washed, sorted, and prepped for recycling!

To our 12 participants, thank you for all the help and welcome to plastic farming!! We hope you had fun and we can’t thank you enough for volunteering and making an impact on our local community and environment.

As always, thank you to O, Miami, Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center, Key Biscayne Community Foundation, Key Biscayne Citizen Scientist Project, and Miami-Dade County for the partnerships and support.
