Free Plastic's live edge desk valet with deconstructed clock

Another collab is in the bag! This time we partnered up with a local tinkerer/maker to create a desk valet with a deconstructed clock!

While they handled the tear down and rebuild of the mid-century table clock, the Free Plastic team salvaged some old walnut and created a live edge river base with 32 grams of unrecycleable thermal plastics floating in black epoxy. We then routered out a small section for their favorite pen & another to keep small office supplies or your favorite pair of headphones.

Since epoxy is a thermoset plastic, we only use it to create beautiful, long-lasting products combined with unrecyclable plastics. In many cities and counties in South Florida, unrecycleable plastics are any unlabeled/unmarked plastic. So our definition of unrecyclable plastics are those plastics that the city/county will not recycle AND that our recycling equipment cannot safely recycle.

For instance, at high temperatures PET (#1) and PVC (#3) release dangerous gasses like hydrogen bromide and hydrogen chloride that could be extremely dangerous without the proper safety systems in place.

There is so much potential for the future of recycling plastics and plastic pollution, but always remember, SAFETY FIRST!
