Plastic Poetry 011.1 & 011.2
Charles R. Hadley Elementary School
In September 2023, Free Plastic and O, Miami installed their eleventh and twelfth in a series of public art works entitled Plastic Poetry. Plastic Poetry is a series of community activations that blends recycling plastics, plastic pollution, beach cleanups, public art, and poetry. This installation consisted of two poems by two Hadley students with a combined total of 6.02 pounds of recycled plastic.
The text for Plastic Poetry 011.1 was written by Andrés Ramirez, a student from Charles R. Hadley Elementary School commissioned by O, Miami.
The five-inch letters are rendered in 1.75 lbs of recycled post-consumer plastic and plastic pollution harvested from various beach cleanups held throughout Miami-Dade County in 2023.
The text was written by Marthina Stoppello, a student from Charles R. Hadley Elementary School commissioned by O, Miami.

MY GRANDPA IS ONE OF THE MOST SPECIAL
AND NICEST PEOPLE I’VE EVER MET.
IT MAKES ME EMOTIONAL BECAUSE HE
IS GOING THROUGH A LOT RIGHT NOW
WITH CANCER. MY OTHER GRANDPA DIED ALREADY,
BUT IT’S OKAY. HE HAD A LONG AND HAPPY LIFE.
I NEVER GOT TO MEET HIM, BUT THAT’S OKAY
BECAUSE I KNOW HE WILL ALWAYS BE WITH ME
IN MY HEART. THAT IS WHY I LOVE BOTH
OF MY GRANDPAS EQUALLY, WHETHER THEY
ARE IN THE SKY OR ON LAND. I WILL ALWAYS LOVE THEM
FROM MY HEART TO THE SKY.
