The Grande Bohemian is a teak coffee table from our client’s childhood that was in desperate need of restoration. They entrusted us with the update, and requested a big blue river of plastic through the middle of it.

The original table had a thin plywood top with teak veneer that had seen some better days. Instead of scrapping the top altogether, we chose to salvage what we could while transforming its defects into accents.

The core section of the table is original and newly reinforced to support the epoxy & plastic river. With restrictions on the depth, the finished table has a shallow river and trim (less than 1/2″ deep), so we could only pack in 178 grams of unrecyclable plastics. The black trim replaced the plastic/gold trim, and the outer veneered trim was replaced with solid reclaimed teak. No more veneer anywhere on the table, and the rest of the table is original, just a bit of sanding, stain, and finish.

All proceeds support Free Plastic’s mission to locate, collect, and upcycle the nearly endless supply of plastic pollution found in our local environment, converting it into usable objects and works of art.
